ABBYY FlexiCapture Studio helps to process flexible forms

Johannesburg, 18 May 2004

Deltalink Consulting, distributor of ABBYY products in South Africa, reports that ABBYY`s FlexiCapture Studio received the AIIM 2004 Best of Show Award in the Recognition Category. Award winners demonstrate creative use of technology, business value, and return on investment in Enterprise Content Management solutions.

"As a winner of the 2004 Best of Show award, ABBYY is a prime example of the technological excellence being introduced into the ever-growing ECM marketplace," said John Mancini, president of AIIM. "AIIM is pleased to honor such an outstanding organization and product in ABBYY FlexiCapture Studio."

ABBYY FlexiCapture Studio is a new software tool based on ABBYY`s FlexiCapture Technology. FlexiCapture Studio increases the capabilities of FormReader 6.0, ABBYY`s forms processing application, and FineReader Engine 7.1 *, a Software Development Kit, allowing them to extract data from forms with similar data, but different layouts, such as invoices, medical aid claim forms, resumes, or loan application documents. Data can be extracted from documents scanned at different resolutions.

ABBYY FlexiCapture Studio is intended for developers, VARs and integrators who want to expand their business and supply their clients with reliable and effective data capture solutions. ABBYY FlexiCapture Studio provides an easy-to-use "front end" access to the development know-how previously used only by ABBYY`s in-house developers in large-scale forms processing projects.

FlexiCapture Studio is built on powerful and time-tested ABBYY technologies which in their turn are based on the IPA principles that imitate the way humans recognize objects. The purpose of FlexiCapture Studio is to "teach" FormReader or the FineReader Engine to find the required fields on forms with variable layouts. ABBYY FlexiCapture Studio creates a formalized description of forms that have similar data but different layout. This formalized description, called FlexiLayout, tells FormReader or the FineReader Engine how to look for a particular field: the program analyzes the form, finds objects that can be found and recognized without fail, and then uses these objects as reference to find the data fields and capture their contents.

This flexible tool allows you to choose the way of creating a flexible layout, or FlexiLayout - by selecting options in the program`s dialog boxes or by writing the code in a formalized FlexiCapture language. Even if you have no programming background, you can easily create a FlexiLayout.

The powerful and flexible technologies used in ABBYY FlexiCapture Studio allow you to create a FlexiLayout for extracting data from both simple and complex documents on which the location of similar fields may vary greatly. FlexiCapture Studio uses a unique algorithm to detect data fields. Unlike other similar applications which analyze separate elements one by one, FlexiCapture Studio uses the whole set of form objects to identify the required fields. This drastically reduces errors and speeds up the entire process.

* FlexiCapture Studio for ABBYY FineReader Engine will be available starting from Q3 2004.
