Abnoba achieves accolades in two local ICT awards

Johannesburg, 19 Nov 2004

Local black empowered company Abnoba has achieved top spots in both the Technology Top 100 (TT100) Company Awards and the 2004 African ICT Achievers Awards.

Abnoba is a "Technology Top 100 Company" in the "emerging SMME" category, and a "Finalist for African Achievers Awards for Top ICT SMME". In addition, Shanaaz Scharffenorth, Abnoba shareholder, is a "Finalist for African Achievers for Top Black Woman in ICT".

"To be recognised as an ambassador of SA`s technology excellence is a privilege," says Fairoz Jaffer, CEO of Abnoba. "From our early beginnings in 2002, we have quickly become a key player in the market and have completed many successful projects, shown capability and built credibility in the market. It is an honour to have these achievements recognised in the TT100 and African ICT Achievers` Awards."

The TT100 Awards Programme is one of the foremost business awards programmes in SA addressing large, medium and small enterprises, as well as technology organisations such as science councils and universities. Since 1994, TT100 has had the strong support of both government and the private sector. The programme receives substantial support from the Department of Science & Technology as the major government sponsor, and Eskom, as the major non-government sponsor. It is run under the auspices of The Engineering Association (SAVI), with strategic management and coordination being provided by the Da Vinci Research Institute and Kirkpatrick and Associates respectively.

The African ICT Achievers Awards, affectionately known as the "Oscars" of the ICT sector, is an initiative of Forge Ahead in conjunction with partners Mail & Guardian and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), among others. It recognises and honours excellence among black ICT professionals who made a significant contribution to the ICT sector.

Empowerment is a core part of Abnoba`s strategy - the company is 100% black owned with 50% female equity. "Being selected as a finalist in the Top Black Woman in ICT category is an honour," says Shanaaz Scharffenorth, Operations Manager.

"This recognition has not just been handed out to us. It comes from a determined effort by the management and all staff to work hard and deliver results at international standards. Our high-level skills, marketing efforts and ability to identify customers have also played a key role," she says.

Abnoba is a consulting company focusing on digital and business process automation. It provides business solutions that improve productivity and reduce operational costs in both the government and private sectors. The company`s clients include many national and locally represented international corporations.
