Abraxas IT Services, a company in the JSE-listed AST-A group, has joined the Ardent DataStage Business Partner Programme to help its customers address the issue of data quality.
Abraxas IT Services markets and sells a suite of integrated software products, including the Brio One data warehousing and enterprise reporting tools, the MD&A Complete PME, a workflow system, PCDocs, a document management system, and Nemesis a pay-for-performance product. Frances Jordaan, products manager of the products division of Abraxas IT Services, says the scope and breadth of the product set makes Abraxas IT Services the leading player in the market in terms of data warehousing, information management, process management and knowledge management.
"We are seeing a strong convergence of these technologies," says Jordaan. "Common to all of them is a need to ensure data quality and consistent meta data, and this is where Ardent`s DataStage plays a vital part."
Abraxas IT Services has as a central goal the reduction of complexity to its customers, Jordaan emphasises. "We don`t want them to worry about how the data warehouse is delivered, so we are working on providing `black-box` solutions to our customers. This embraces a run-time version of DataStage, which further reduces cost as well as complexity."
DataStage has become the industry`s leading product for automated extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) of data from any source to any delivery platform, and for maintaining cohesive meta data. Jordaan says Abraxas IT Services recommends the use of such a toolset, rather than writing the routines separately.
"While it is certainly possible for companies to code their own ETL routines, it`s a waste of scarce and expensive resources to do it. We are committed to data quality, and to maximising the productivity of IT systems. DataStage meets both goals."
Jordaan adds that Abraxas IT Services has identified four potential DataStage sites from its customer base, and expects significant success with the product in the new year.
Ardent SA GM Simon Jeggo says Abraxas IT Services` support for DataStage is an indication of the importance being accorded data quality in the local market.
"Business intelligence and knowledge management customers, implementers and influencers are understanding that there can be no cohesive enterprise information delivery without an infrastructure such as that provided by DataStage."
