Absa is extending its ADSL range to include 1GB and 6GB capped offerings to give clients more choice, and is also providing an online self- system for easier access.

The unveiled its 3GB ASDL access package in October last year.

"We were very encouraged by the initial take up by our customers. Dial-up was not satisfactory enough for them, especially banking customers," explains Christo Vrey, GM of delivery channel services at Absa.

"We have been seeing about 200 new clients a month since this service become available," says Masopha Molapo, Absa product manager for Internet access. "This is despite the fact that clients are required to have an ADSL line installed by Telkom."

Molapo adds that Absa is extending its ADSL offering because some clients require a smaller cap, and others feel the 3GB is not enough.

"We have looked at our clients` profiles in detail to determine what the best options would be," says Molapo.

Absa`s offerings now include a 1GB cap for R122 a month for Internet banking clients, and R136 for non-Internet banking clients. The 6GB option is R448 a month for Internet banking clients and R502 for non-Internet banking clients.

The 3GB and 6GB options have analogue access as back-up at no additional cost. "If the ADSL does have a problem and the user is in dire straits, there will be an analogue access as a back-up," explains Molapo.

"The delay for getting the additional ADSL access packages out there has been largely due to the set up of our online self-service system," he admits.

The online system will allow the user to make bandwidth purchases online and keep control of their data spend.

Molapo points out that the extra access packages will be available later this month.
