Absa Bank plans to add computer telephony integration to its financial trading solution, provided by Dimension Data Interactive Media.
The dealerboard trading system was implemented at Absa a year ago, and Gerry van Zyl, technology and system manager for corporate bank, markets and trading, says the system has proved to be highly efficient.
"The dealerboard system has put us a few steps ahead of our competitors," says Van Zyl. "The results have shown, with trading becoming quick and reliable, that traders feel they are reaping the benefits of a highly efficient system.
"The trading floor has become a fully interactive, efficient and highly competitive playground for Absa traders since implementing the solution 12 months ago," he adds.
The banking group has been trading with dealerboards - a multimedia communication solution - provided by Dimension Data Interactive Media`s partner, IPC.
Van Zyl says the downtime of the IPC dealerboards is extremely low, with no trading time being lost.
DiData Interactive Media has trained Trading Desk, contracted by Absa to provide technical assistance in the trading room, on the IPC systems. Dimension Data acts as a second line support to Trading Desk.
Each system is equipped with eight channel speakers with full functionality which means a trader can have up to eight people quoting prices to him simultaneously.
"Traders gain maximum results from the dealerboard system and with a team of specialists standing by when difficulties pop up, no material problems were experienced and the feed-back from the floor has been very positive," says Van Zyl.
Absa will, in a few months, add IPC`s computer telephony integration to the system. This will provide financial traders with facilities like screen pops on their PCs with details of the trade on hand, while they make or receive calls.
