ABSA Web site visitors get an eyeful

ABSA has confirmed that visitors to its Web site were redirected to a pornography site yesterday morning. The local institute attributes the problem to a technical glitch on an M-Web server.

A sharp-eyed ITWeb reader spotted the problem yesterday morning when, instead of receiving ABSA`s Web page on her browser, she purportedly encountered the message: "Error processing SSI file `/guests/main.shtml`", before being redirected to the "Karas adult playground" pornography site.

M-Web blames the problem on a new feature in its technology that it implemented yesterday. According to Caroline Sedgwick of M-Web Corporate Affairs, "this caused an incorrect page to be rendered upon a request for the ABSA home page".

"Once the problem had been diagnosed, we immediately reverted back to the original configuration which resolved the problem within an hour," says Sedgwick.

M-Web denies that the redirection of the banking site to a porn site was the work of a hacker.

The local MSN site also allegedly suffered the same fate last week, with users redirected to a pornography site for a short period of time.
