Accellion has made its secure file-sharing mobile app available for Windows Phone 8.
The app enables secure mobile sharing and collaboration for users of Windows Phone 8, along with Android and iOS devices. According to the company, the app helps IT departments keep organisational data secure.
The Windows Phone operating system had the largest growth of any mobile phone platform between April and June 2013, with global shipments rising 78%, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC). As a result, IT departments have had to adopt secure solutions for users to share files, collaborate and access enterprise content management stores such as SharePoint and Windows File Shares.
"We see time and again that, without an enterprise solution, users turn to free, unsecure public cloud productivity apps without regard for the data security risks associated with many of them. To help mitigate this risk, BYOD [bring your own device] policy support for all major devices is necessary," said Rama Kolappan, director of mobile product marketing at Accellion. "We see the recent increase in market share for Windows Phone 8 reflected in our customer base. With this launch, Accellion extends mobile productivity support to IT departments and users everywhere."
With the Accellion Windows Phone 8 app, users can navigate workspaces to access organisation information, view and send files to both internal and external contacts, share workspaces for real-time collaboration, and securely access corporate files on the go from Windows content management stores without a VPN, while also being able to view activity logs and notifications within workspaces.
The app is currently in private beta for select customers. According to Accellion, it will be available to the mass market, with support for Windows RT and Windows 8 for tablets, by the end of the year.
