India finalises open standards policy
After three years of continuous running battles, India's Department of IT has finalised the national policy on open standards, writes InformationWeek.
With this development, India has become another major country to join the growing open standards movement. Some of the largest greenfield e-government projects in the world are in India and the government aims to take e-government services to most of India's billion plus population.
Open source poster boy, Red Hat believes this is a historic moment for the Indian IT industry and DIT deserves congratulations for approving a policy that will ensure India's digital sovereignty and the long-term preservation of India's e-government data.
Lionsgate moves ERP into the cloud
Cloud service management provider, Freedom OSS, has made an agreement with Lionsgate Entertainment to move its SAP system into a cloud computing environment hosted by Amazon Web Services (AWS), says TMCnet,
With this move, it is expected IT costs will be reduced; efficiency will be improved; and IT infrastructure consumption will be minimised by varying the amount of energy and computing power to fit specific project needs.
Joel Davne, CEO of Freedom OSS, says: “The migration of a production SAP solution onto the AWS platform is a clear signal that cloud computing is being adopted by large enterprises. ERP represents one of the few remaining barriers that most industry observers felt would take longer to achieve.”
