Accenture extends Edcon outsourcing deal

Johannesburg, 25 Nov 2005

Accenture has signed a five-year application outsourcing deal extension with South African group Edcon.

Edcon comprises over 750 stores trading in southern Africa and the new contract is a continuation of a seven-year application management outsourcing deal that began in 1998.

Edcon`s decision to continue its relationship with Accenture was based on Accenture`s strong partnership approach to the deal, says Edcon Henri Slabbert. This approach enabled Edcon to continually improve its application management capability and service, while at the same time reducing costs, he says.

As part of the deal extension, an Accenture team will continue to the majority of Edcon`s application systems development and maintenance activity, service integration management and systems training, says Louis Rossam, Accenture senior executive.

Edcon, says Slabbert, has an application portfolio that includes Microsoft-based business intelligence, Retek merchandise management, Vision credit management, Oracle financials and continually enhanced Store Systems applications.

"Our focus on relationship building and ensuring our performance measures are common with those of Edcon`s has paid off," says Rossam.

"Accenture also leverages its global delivery network to bring the best thinking and cost-effectiveness to its work at Edcon," Rossam says. "The ability to continually streamline processes has created an increased capacity for value-added systems development projects, thereby providing additional business capability and competitiveness at no added cost to the client."
