Access Axis security cameras with Axiz

Johannesburg, 11 Mar 2010

Today, security is essential for every home and every business. For this reason, Axiz supplies the full range of Axis security cameras to suit any security requirement.

The latest addition to the offering is a complete, IP-based mobile video surveillance solution consisting of a new series of network cameras for use in buses, trains, subway cars and emergency vehicles.

“These high-performance cameras are specially designed for use in vehicles, and provide full frame rate video streams in H.264 and Motion JPEG in resolutions up to 1 megapixel, including HDTV 720p,” says Jacques Liebenberg, product manager: Axis Surveillance at Axiz.

“The discreet but rugged M31-R cameras have protection against dust and water, and can withstand tough conditions such as vibrations, shocks, bumps and temperature fluctuations. The models come with either a rugged RJ-45 or rugged M12 connector.”

Meanwhile, the Axis P5534 PTZ dome network camera is a pan, tilt and zoom camera with HDTV performance and 18x zoom for indoor surveillance applications.

Together with an IP51-rated protection against dust and dripping water, the AXIS P5534 is ideal for use at airports, train stations, warehouses, shops and schools. AXIS P5534 offers HDTV 720p in compliance with the SMPTE 296M standard and delivers multiple, individually configurable H.264 and Motion JPEG video streams.

“Another new product is the Q1910/-E range of thermal network cameras. These are a perfect complement to any professional IP-based surveillance system that needs to secure an area 24-hours a day, seven days a week. While conventional day-and-night cameras depend on a certain amount of near-infrared light to function, thermal cameras deliver reliable detection even in total darkness and in difficult weather conditions such as smoke, haze, dust and light fog.”

The Q1910 unit is an indoor variant, while the Q1910-E is an out-of-the-box, outdoor-ready camera. Both cameras are competitively priced, and provide all necessary thermal capabilities. “In addition, the products offer all the typical Axis network video features, including H.264 and Motion JPEG video compression, two-way audio, local SD/SDHC storage, I/O and power over Ethernet. Since thermal images are excellent source material for video analytics, the Q1910/-E units provide strong intelligent video capabilities, including support for the Axis Camera Application Platform for installation of Axis and third-party applications in the camera,” adds Liebenberg.

The Q1910 thermal network camera supports H.264 video compression, which reduces bandwidth usage and storage needs by up to 80% compared to Motion JPEG. The camera provides multiple, individually configurable video streams in H.264 and Motion JPEG. Each stream can have its own colour palette setting. This is the first thermal camera on the market with two-way audio support, which allows the user to communicate with visitors and intruders.

Since thermal cameras are immune to problems with light conditions and normal shadows, they can achieve higher accuracy than conventional cameras in most intelligent video applications. The Q1910 thermal network camera offers motion detection, audio detection, and detection of tampering attempts. The camera also provides capacity for third-party analytics modules, including support for Axis Camera Application Platform.

Installation is made easy and cost-effective with power over Ethernet (IEEE 802.3af), which eliminates the need for power cables. The Axis Q1910 thermal network camera supports ONVIF for interoperability between network video products, and also supports quality of service, which helps secure the necessary bandwidth for streaming video and control commands over a network.
