William Surmon of Standard Bank received the top award at the eighth annual Gauteng Contact Centre Awards at the Kyalami Race Track on Saturday.
Surmon was named the Gauteng Economic Development Agency call centre manager of the year at the event, which drew about 900 executives.
The awards have grown from one national event to three regional events in the Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.
"The 2005 awards saw a maturing element from 2004 and that ties in with the progress of the South African contact centre environment," said award judge Traci Freeman of Contact in Gauteng.
Next year, an SME and a black economic empowerment category will be added to the awards, said Freeman.
Winners of the 2005 awards include:
Ask Afrika`s Customer Delight Index: IFA, Clientele Life;
City of Jo`burg Innovation Award: Digital Mall
Dimension Data`s In-house Contact Centre Award: Standard Bank
Ekurhuleni`s International Award: Sykes Enterprise
Small to Medium Contact Centre Award: Call Centre Nucleus
Large Contact Centre: Absa, with a special judges award going to Direct Channel Marketing
Kelly`s Solutions Provider Award: Dimension Data CIS
Individual category winners included Lesley Walmsley of Standard Bank, who walked away with the Agent of the Year Award, and Nontobeko Radebe of Absa, who was presented with Supervisor of the Year Award.
About 650 guests are expected to attend the National SA Contact Centre Community Awards at Gallagher Estate on 17 September.
