Accord boosts global marketing and sales capacity

Johannesburg, 30 May 2000

In a move which will fast-track its locally developed mobile access technology into world markets, JSE-listed Accord Technologies has formed an alliance with leading Information Technology (IT) marketing and development company, Axcess Technology Inc.

Accord`s appointment of Axcess Technology as a value-added reseller for its technology will open the way for it to be rapidly introduced to some of the world`s leading original equipment manufacturer`s (OEMs).

Based in Connecticut, US and Stockholm, Sweden, Axcess boasts close relationships with some of the top global players in the mobile and Internet arena including America OnLine (AOL), Siemens and Ericsson.

According to Axcess president Peter Muhlrad, Accord`s technology is among the most exciting currently available in the fast-moving mobile arena because of its ability to be implemented across all the most popular operating systems.

At present, palmtop PCs, handheld computers or Personal Assistants (PDAs) are intelligent proprietary devices with predefined functionality and limited user extensibility.

The market for these devices is enormous - well over US$2,4-billion in 1999 and growing according to market research company IDC.

"The demand today is for people to be able to access meaningful information anywhere, anytime. Technologies, such as those developed by Accord, make this possible," he explains.

"More importantly, Accord has made it possible for any application - even those which generally run on powerful and sophisticated servers - to either run on, or be seamlessly compatible with, a handheld device.

"In addition, the technology is readily adaptable to a host of vertical applications from alarms to interactive learning.

Muhlrad says Axcess will work closely with Accord Research and Development in tailoring solutions to meet the specific needs of different markets.

"We will either design software solutions which will run on a customer`s own handheld device, or provide them with a turnkey solution which will include Accord`s ergonomic handheld PC," Muhlrad says.

Accord CEO Brandon Saldsman the company`s technology generated tremendous excitement among the world`s leading experts in the highly specialised field of embedded technology during an exhibition held in the US late last year.

"The agreement with Axcess will boost our capacity to reach our potential target market on two continents," he concludes.
