The 118 000-member Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) has awarded its first "Accreditation" designation in the area of e-commerce to ACCPAC International, Inc, a division of Computer Associates International, for ACCPAC eTransact - a B2B and B2C Web store creation and management solution.
The ICAEW's e-commerce accreditation is an addition to the institute's 10-year-old IT Products testing and evaluation programme. The new accreditation programme supports the ICAEW's commitment to provide independent guidance to organisations choosing accounting and e-commerce software solutions.
ACCPAC eTransact seamlessly integrates with ACCPAC business management accounting solutions and is designed to affordably bring the Web-selling power of large corporations within the reach of virtually every mid-market enterprise.
ICAEW evaluators determined that eTransact is comprehensive yet easy to use, and has the capability of accommodating a wide range of pricing and customer terms in creating a Web site in short order. The solution was praised for being highly integrated, not only front-to-back but also back-to-front, and for its many Web store templates that allow users to create and customise their own Web site without assistance from specialists.
John Greig, ICAEW director of Member Benefits, commented that its accreditation review team was "particularly impressed by the comprehensive and highly integrated design of the ACCPAC eTransact architecture".
To achieve accreditation, eTransact had to undergo a strict, independent technical evaluation in which the functionality and security of the software system was tested in relation to transactions now made over the Internet. The security infrastructure of the ACCPAC hosting model, and all forms of global taxes and freight group creation, were also carefully scrutinized in the testing.
"ACCPAC is committed to delivering the most flexible and best value in Internet deployment options today, so we're delighted to have been the first to receive this prestigious certification from the ICAEW," said Jeremy Waterman, managing director of ACCPAC Africa.
The ICAEW e-commerce accreditation comes less than a year after ACCPAC received ICAEW Information Technology Products accreditation for its Advantage Series business management software.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales is the largest professional accountancy body in Europe, with more than 118 000 members. Some 3 000 new members qualify each year. The institute's qualification, which allows members to call themselves Chartered Accountants and to use the designatory letters ACA or FCA, is recognised around the world as a prestigious business qualification. The institute operates under a Royal Charter working in the public interest.
