ACCPAC launches Advantage Series 5.1 with IBM DB2

Johannesburg, 25 Feb 2003

ACCPAC Africa has announced version 5.1 of the Web-based ACCPAC Advantage Series accounting system, which includes the IBM DB2 database.

"The new release also includes functional enhancements and new component packaging designed to make it easier for small and mid-size businesses (SMBs) to create economical business management solutions aligned more closely to their needs," says Jeremy Waterman, MD of ACCPAC Africa.

All editions of the ACCPAC Advantage Series (Enterprise, Corporate, Small Business and Discovery) are being upgraded, providing improved Web services integration, expanded database support and performance improvements, as well as functional enhancements for international markets and overall ease-of-use.

In addition, Multicurrency, National Accounts, and Optional Fields and Validation Tables have been packaged as optional modules across all editions.

With version 5.1, ACCPAC is also the first accounting software vendor to include, at no additional charge, the IBM DB2 database.

"DB2 is a Web-ready relational database management system which will offer users an affordable platform on which to deploy a scalable business management system - and the freedom to do so in either a Linux or Windows environment," says Waterman.

"Advantage Series 5.1 offers new packaging and pricing options designed to enable its customers to buy 'what they need, when they need it', and to do so affordably. And since the DB2 server and three DB2 user licences are included at no charge, the value proposition for customers is even stronger," adds Waterman.

Furthermore, Advantage Series 5.1 now offers support across all four editions for the full range of database options, previously available only for the Enterprise Edition. In addition to DB2, clients of Advantage Series 5.1 can now choose between Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server or Pervasive.SQL 2000 databases.

"ACCPAC's release of Advantage Series version 5.1 is a very logical extension of its 'all about choice' customer-focused strategy, providing advantages for small and mid-size companies that need high quality, cost-effective business management systems that will grow with them," concludes Waterman.
