Accsys chooses Sybase as heart of payroll, HR system

Johannesburg, 25 Oct 2001

Accsys, a provider of integrated payroll and human resources (HR) management solutions, has chosen Sybase's Adaptive Server Anywhere (ASA) database to power its human resources management system.

Accsys's Windows-based payroll and HR systems have been developed to comply with SA's specific HR requirements. They are regularly upgraded to meet changing workplace, management and labour legislation issues. Accsys is a company in the JSE Securities Exchange-listed UCS group.

"Accsys-HR integrates all payroll and HR processes around a single database, making people management easier, quicker and more cost-effective," says Dick Bradley, Accsys MD.

"Sybase's ASA database forms an integral part of our bundled solution. It provides improved access to data, with up-to-date information enabling more effective management. Reports are generated quickly and accurately, providing management with timely, consolidated information."

Because business has an ever-growing responsibility to be proactive in areas of national interest, like job creation, education and social upliftment, managers are under increasing pressure from government and labour to adopt a more 'holistic' approach to people management.

It is critical, in terms of rapidly fast emerging global challenges, to accept the strategic role of human resources. The challenges of labour legislation, the need to maximise human capital, the emergence of the virtual workplace and the shift of human resources responsibilities to line managers are all addressed by Accsys-HR.

"As an IT system, Accsys-HR gears organisations to meet the challenges of transformation and globalisation with a focus on the development and management of people as a catalyst for corporate growth," says Sybase MD Tony Nutter. "Good business practice codes facilitated by the Accsys-HR system bring legal compliance into the workflow of the system so day-to-day tasks are automatically performed in line with legislation. Increased accuracy provides a real-time view of staff activities and performance and enables effective staff management."

To maximise a company's human potential, Accsys-HR ensures that the human capital and knowledge assets of the company are quantified. This is done through a process of training and strategic skills allocation to produce the best possible results in the workplace. The system integrates all HR processes around the Sybase ASA database, facilitating the demanding tasks of people management. Based on a set of core Managers (modules) that house the database, Accsys-HR is flexible, allowing companies to choose the modules that meet their specific needs.

The Module Manager controls the relationships of the various modules, access to the system by various users, and provides detailed information for audit trails. It also provides an interface with the database to ensure easy monitoring of users and backup procedures.

"In an era where HR often means 'hassle and risk', Accsys-HR is a much needed empowerment tool for today's business environment," adds Bradley. "Sybase provides our customers with a highly functional, flexible and reliable infrastructure to power this tool. In addition, the company is strongly represented in SA and provides a high level of support, locally and internationally."

He adds that Sybase ASA offers all the functionality expected of a relational database management system, including reliability, scalability and low maintenance, without requiring a database administrator. It also ensures integrity of customer data and a comprehensive backup strategy.
