ACDSee makes photo sharing quick and easy

Johannesburg, 28 Aug 2003

Global Publishing Partner, Phoenix Software, has announced the release of ACDSee 5.0, the latest in ACD`s range of photo and image management software, to the local market.

"This latest edition concentrates on improving the performance offered by the previous version and boasts a host of new features to increase the speed and ease of finding, filing and sharing photos," says Robert Hall, country manager at Phoenix Software. The program has improved on the Customise toolbars option, which enables the user to set up the program to suit their needs, adding to the speed and efficiency with which photos can be changed, stored and shared.

ACD has concentrated the improvements in three areas: acquire, find and manage fast; view, browse and touch up easily; and print and share your images.

ACDSee allows users to take images from cameras, scanners, memory cards, CDs and the Web for enhancement, saving, reproduction and sharing purposes. Once accessed, photographs can be automatically catalogued through the creation of folders, albums, archives, favourites and multi-level categories. Images can also be saved into groups and then filtered and automatically renamed sequentially.

Saved photos can easily be found by searching by name, keyword, date, description or camera metadata. Searching can also be done using a calendar that retrieves photos taken on dates you specify.

When browsing, pictures can be viewed in over 50 media formats and full-size images can be viewed quickly, saving time in the downloading phase. "This program allows you to browse an entire image CD collection without switching disks. Users can also view thumbnails extremely fast, and customise sizes and the data that appears with each photo," Hall says.

"They can preview audio and video and take stills from video, convert images to different formats, and resize, rotate and adjust the exposure to single images or groups." Additional plug-ins, like ACD`s FotoCentre, are also available to configure ACDSee to launch favourite audio, video or image editors.

The expanded print capabilities of the program allow the printing of print images with file information and camera metadata included. Contact sheets can also be printed for cataloguing purposes. Photos can now be sent via e-mail more easily as unlimited photos can be sent in one e-mail and optimised before sending the mail.

Using ACD`s free SendPix photo hosting service, images can be posted on the Web or, with just a few clicks, the user can create Web-ready HTML photo albums. The program also allows photos to be stored into either basic or enhanced slideshows for sharing purposes.
