Following a shift in focus from IT products and manufacturing, to innovative marketing, services and user-centric product/service offerings, Acer is launching its newly adopted IT Business Platform. This new strategic approach will see Acer effectively competing in the knowledge economy by stepping into the role of complete solutions provider.
"Presently, the general IT reality is that a typical business is spending vast amounts of money trying to improve effectiveness and add value for customers, while trying to manage a value chain populated by a number of different IT suppliers for hardware, software, systems design, services and support," explains Peter Ibbotson, chairman of Acer.
"A close look at this situation reveals a range of suppliers that do not necessarily have a complementary interest in supporting one another`s products and services. This inevitably leads to incompatibilities, lack of accountability, a deficit of measurement, inconsistent service levels and blame shifting."
Acer`s IT Business Platform focuses on three factors, which provide an alternative to this complicated situation: simplicity, security and effectiveness. Says Ibbotson: "Simplicity is important, so that an organisation is provided with an easily implemented and maintained IT solution which is exactly right for the business, without frills or gaps. Security refers to the robustness of the solution, with suppliers being credible, properly accountable and supportive. Effectiveness covers thorough forward planning and managed optimised cost."
This new approach means that Acer not only develops the most ideal solution for a company, it also provides all hardware requirements, from servers and notebooks to storage, regardless of the scale, operating systems, or whether entry-level or high-end equipment is needed.
Acer will also provide the support services needed to maintain the selected solution, including a single number to call for IT assistance, a measurable, customised warranty programme and a Solution Centre, where an operating environment can be simulated and potential issues resolved before they even occur.
"Obviously, our strong relationships with reputable companies are key. Shifting IT-related expenses from capital expenditure to operating expenses through structured finance deals is also a stringent requirement through bottom line management.
"It is Acer`s mission to streamline computer technology and to make it more affordable to everyone, everywhere," says Ibbotson. "This move is about clarity and consistency for our customers, who can now enjoy one voice and one experience with each Acer brand."
