Acer presents the new TravelMate 290E series, a new family of notebooks designed for professional users and small and medium-sized enterprises looking for a reliable and highly-independent portable computer that provides easy, anywhere connectivity and an excellent price/performance ratio.
The Acer TravelMate 290E notebooks utilise the latest 1.3GHz Intel Celeron M processors with 512KB L2 cache, 400MHz FSB, Intel 852GM chipset and, depending on the configuration, integrated DVD/CD-RW or DVD-Dual drives featuring the technology of the modular Acer MediaBay. The Acer TravelMate 290E comes standard with 256MB DDR266 system memory, scaleable up to 2.0GB, while the ATA/100 Hard Disk starts at a minimum of 40GB.
"The TravelMate 290E notebooks are ideal work instruments with full multimedia functionality: 15-inch TFT Active Matrix display with a resolution of 1024 x 768 and an integrated video card with Intel DVMT technology that makes use of up to 64MB system memory," says Charlene Meltz, product manager: notebooks and LCD displays at Acer. "The TravelMate 290E notebooks utilise DualView technology, allowing for simultaneous use of an LCD and an external CRT monitor. They feature MS-Sound compatible audio with integrated speakers."
The use of Intel Celeron M processors and 852GM chipsets derived from Intel Mobile Centrino technology, give the TravelMate 290E up to 4.5 hours of autonomy and wireless connectivity.
Full connectivity is ensured through the built-in V.92 56Kbps fax/modem, the integrated 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet card and the units` Wireless IEEE 802.11g connections.
All models have a full set of I/O ports, including one parallel port, three USB 2.0 ports, an infrared (FIR) port and microphone and headphone jacks. A VGA connector for external monitors and a 32bit type II PCMCIA CardBus slot are also standard.
The Acer TravelMate 290E notebooks ship with Microsoft Windows XP Home or Professional Edition preinstalled (with Recovery CD). Additional software includes a full set of utilities to fine tune the system (Acer Launch Manager), and programs such as Adobe Acrobat Reader, the sophisticated Norton AntiVirus (trial version) - which can be updated directly over the Internet, and NTI CD Maker.
"The new two-spindle Acer TravelMate 290E notebooks, represent one of the most complete and convenient `mobile` solutions on the market, incorporating Intel Celeron M processors for superior processing power and outstanding battery life," concludes Meltz.
