Acer, a leading global IT vendor, has partnered with Intel, the world`s largest maker of processors, to provide a new standard in wireless connectivity and networking.
The partnership between the two computing giants will provide brand-name reliability in a new wave in networking made possible by the sophistication and availability of wireless networking devices and technology.

Fast, secure wireless connectivity is supplied through Intel`s PRO/Wireless 2011 LAN solution. It uses an Access Point, or base station, to provide a wireless network that`s accessed by wireless LAN cards.
Existing or legacy notebook computers will use a credit card-sized PCMCIA card with a small antenna, while new PCs have integrated wireless LAN cards built onto the motherboard.
Acer uses Intel processors exclusively in its high-quality notebook and desktop computers. In addition, Acer is an Intel Product Integrator (IPI). This means it adds value to its product range by buying Intel equipment from one of three distributors in SA and bundling wireless products into their computers.
"With the most advanced roaming technology in the industry, the Intel wireless PC card allows mobile workers and students to freely roam throughout a campus, all while maintaining a high-speed connection to the LAN via a network of Access Points," Salant explains.
Employees utilising a wireless network can access their corporate network from virtually anywhere in their building, and can swop data directly from one PC to another without a cable. Such wireless LANS (WLANs) are based on the widely-adopted IEEE 802.11b standard, and can transmit data up to 100 metres through walls, ceilings and even concrete structures.
"Functioning as a wireless hub, the Intel PRO/Wireless 2011 LAN Access Point serves as a bridge between an existing wired network and wireless devices. The access point can also act as a repeater, passing along transmissions from one access point to another, creating a wireless backbone and connecting hard-to-reach areas," says Salant.
"Intel wireless Access Points are simple to install, since they ship with a site survey tool to assist in proper placement for desired coverage and performance. IT administrators can manage and monitor the network of Access Points remotely via standard Web browsers."
