A maturing mobile PC market in South Africa and growth in the number of second and third generation notebook PC users, has resulted in a market which is more discerning about notebook quality than ever. Users are aware that a high quality active screen is essential for users who require optimum screen capacity and performance, or make constant use of multimedia applications or operate the PC outdoors. Yet the premium paid for active technology has tended to place notebook PCs with high-end, active displays beyond the reach of budget strapped users. Now Acer Africa has released a competitively priced version of its popular mid-range AcerExtensa 390 notebook, without compromising on the quality of its display. According to Brian Bogaard, general manager: marketing and product services at Acer Africa, not all active displays are created equal, and some poor quality active screens may not give significantly better results than a high-end passive display. "Users should always physically compare the displays on different active notebooks to ensure the quality offered meets their viewing requirements," he says. The new AcerExtensa 390 comes with a high-end 12,1-inch TFT active colour monitor and also packs sufficient power and capacity for all but the most power-hungry user. Under its curvy exterior is a powerful Intel 166MHz Pentium processor with MMX technology; 2,1GB hard drive; 256K pipeline burst L2 cache; 16MB memory; and a battery which lasts and lasts. The patented technology which has made Acer the undisputed world leader in notebook PC battery life has been incorporated into the AcerExtensa 390. As a result, the AcerExtensa 390 series can achieve upto an unprecedented five hours worktime on a single battery - considerably longer than any other notebook PC in its class. The notebook`s remarkable power consumption is achieved through a combination of Acer`s proprietary Sleep Manager and APM, support for smart battery management technology, and an LCD which supports an auto-dim function, further extending battery life. And to meet user`s multimedia requirements, the AcerExtensa 390`s PCI architecture supports an optional 20x CD-ROM drive while the built-in 3D audio system is supported with a wave table and a pair of large speakers. Like all Acer notebooks, the AcerExtensa 390 comes with a free International Travellers` Warranty in addition to local warranties to ensure the best support for travelling executives even when away from home in more than 33 widely-travelled cities worldwide.
