Acer shows strong form throughout EMEA

Johannesburg, 19 Nov 2002

Preliminary results by IDC indicate that Acer grew its EMEA PC shipments by 19% during the third quarter of this year, compared to the same period last year. This is the highest growth rate among the top five PC vendors within the EMEA region, with Acer occupying 4.8% of this quarter`s EMEA PC shipments, compared to 4.2% for the same period last year.

According to IDC: "Acer displayed another strong quarter in EMEA, consolidating its position in the overall ranking. Continued and successful focus on the SMB and notebook markets, as well as a close relationship with its channel partners are among the major contributing factors for Acer`s success."

Newly appointed Acer Africa MD, David Drummond, echoes the sentiment of Acer President, JT Wang, saying that he expects that revenues from Acer branded business will continue to grow by 20% to 30% in Q4, 2002. "Acer`s customer-centric approach enables us to create and launch both solutions and independent products that consistently respond to developing needs. Our market policy, based on indirect channels, further boosts the Acer presence throughout EMEA."

Acer also displayed a healthy growth in PC and notebook categories right across Western Europe.

"With our dedicated management team, effective operational infrastructure, competitive product lines and close channel-customer relationship, we view these results as only the initial steps to even greater success," commented Drummond. "We also believe these results to be indicative of what we can expect to see taking shape in SA during the next quarter."
