Acer TravelMate 240 targets SOHO power users

Acer`s new TravelMate 240 notebooks are integrated multimedia work tools offering flexible communication facilities at an excellent price/performance ratio.

The notebooks use Intel Celeron processors, Intel 852GME chipset and, according to the configuration, DVD/CD-RW or DVD-RW drives. A classic floppy disk drive is, depending on model, integrated in the chassis meeting the all-in-one system needs of travelling professionals. 256MB DDR 333 type base memory is upgradeable to 2.0GB and the removable ATA/100 hard disk holds a minimum of 30GB.

TravelMate 240 models are optimum work tools and equipped with complete multimedia functionality, including:

* Active Matrix 14.1-inch or 15-inch TFT screen with 1024 x 768 resolution;

* 3D AGP Dynamic Video Memory Technology (DVMT) with up to 64MB RAM;

* DualView functionality that can simultaneously run the LCD screen and external CRT monitor; and

* A MS Sound System compatible audio system and two built-in stereo speakers.

"Weighing only 3.4kg (with 15-inch display), the configuration offers all the options, including DVD/CD-RW combo drive - or DVD-RW on selected models - combined with integrated floppy disk drive, a 56Kbps ITU V.92 modem/fax, a 10/100 LAN interface and lithium ion battery with 2.5 hours of autonomy. All models are equipped with a full set of I/O ports including a parallel port, four USB 2.0 ports and a microphone-in and headphone jack. A VGA connector for external monitor hook-up and two Type II PCMCIA CardBus slots are also available.

The TravelMate 240 configuration is exceptionally complete and the notebook can be used for office and multimedia applications, Internet and Intranet connections and downloading and uploading of data.

TravelMate 240 notebooks are pre-installed with the Windows XP operating system (a Recovery CD is also supplied). Additional software includes a full set of system utilities for enhanced system configuration (Acer Notebook Manager, Acer Launch Manager), Adobe Acrobat Reader, Norton AntiVirus, CyberLink PowerDVD and NTI CD Maker.

All Acer notebooks come with a standard one-year warranty including international coverage (International Travellers Warranty). The optional AcerAdvantage service extends the warranty to three years and covers accidental damage to the notebook.
