Acquisition sparks legal action
Data protection software vendor Double-Take Software has agreed to be acquired by Vision Solutions, a developer of high-availability and disaster recovery software, in a move that is already being challenged by a potential shareholder class-action lawsuit, says Channel Web.
Vision Solutions said it plans acquire Double-Take for $242 million, or about $10.55 in cash per share. That is a premium of about 21% over Double-Take's share price of $8.71 on 9 April, when the company said it was considering a potential sale of the company.
The acquisition has led at least one law firm to start looking for participants for a class-action shareholder lawsuit against Double-Take, due to concerns about the acquisition price of $10.55 per share.
Risk awareness drives BCM
There is an increasing awareness among businessmen of the importance of business continuity management (BCM) following a series of unpredictable events and disasters around the region recently, states Bernama.
Malaysian Insurance Institute's conference department head, Hairul Hilmi Ramlee, who also heads the Asean Insurance Training and Research Institute and Knowledge Centre, said most companies were aware of the risks that could affect them, especially in terms of operations.
BCM is a long-term management process that identifies potential impacts that threaten an organisation and provides a framework for building resilience and the capability for an effective response, he said.
LCO Group upgrades DR offering
Technology consultancy The LCO Group has released a turn-key disaster recovery and backup solution, and business continuity assessment offer, according to PR Web.
Version 2.0 of the company's Sentinel backup and disaster recovery offering is an all-in-one solution for small to mid-sized businesses.
Typically, small businesses rely on tape, online, disc-based backup, or a combination of such technologies. In the event of system failure, however, these methods are far from foolproof: according to Microsoft, 40% of all full-tape restore attempts fail, and online backup solutions suffer risks like slow restores and data insecurity.
