Acronis launches comprehensive server protection software in SA

Incremental backup, scheduling and dynamic disk support make live server backup a breeze

Johannesburg, 12 Jan 2004

Local Acronis agent Synapsys has released the latest version of Acronis True Image Server - the powerful server imaging, backup and disaster recovery tool that is garnering multiple awards and rave reviews around the world.

Developed by Acronis, Inc, the San Francisco-based technological leader in storage management solutions, True Image Server allows systems administrators and network managers to create the exact disk image of live servers for complete backup, providing a comprehensive and cost-effective server protection solution.

"A unique feature - one that's of great interest to every IT manager with one or more servers - is the ability to image 'live' Windows servers," says Arthur Williamson, managing director of local distributor Synapsys. "This means user and server administrator productivity is maintained during imaging and backup because there's no need to close files, end applications, disconnect users, or bring down the server," Williamson says.

The product also supports incremental backups, scripting, scheduling, dynamic disks, tape drives, CD and DVD writers, as well as USB2.0 and Firewire storage.

"And to ensure the data integrity essential in any server disaster recovery plan, an image verification tool is integrated to make sure backups maintain integrity and are fully restorable," Williamson adds.

In addition to its disk imaging capabilities, Acronis True Image Server 7.0 now incorporates all the features required to clone and upgrade server disk drives, the company says.

"The greatest benefit any backup software can provide is the ability to get the system working quickly and exactly the way it was before the failure," said Max Tsypliaev, president of Acronis, Inc. "The cost of server downtime could be thousands and even millions of dollars per hour.

"Unlike file-by-file backup products, Acronis True Image Server 7.0 disk imaging backup provides companies with the fastest bare metal server recovery in minutes, without time-consuming reinstallations, configurations and alike, providing rapid ROI," Tsypliaev said.

Acronis True Image Server is available immediately via local distributor Synapsys Systems (Pty) Ltd. Pricing for a single licence is on a par with the US, and multiple server licences are available at an attractive discount, together with maintenance and support options.

The product runs on all server versions of Microsoft Windows, including Windows NT Server / Windows 2000 Server and Advanced Server / Windows XP / Windows 2003 Server. It also can be used to image non-Windows operating systems, including all versions of Linux, Novell Netware and more, by booting from CD/DVD.

A lower-cost but powerful workstation version of Acronis True Image is available for individual PCs. True Image 7.0 has been awarded Editor's Choice by all leading reviewers, including PC Magazine, ZDLabs, and CNET, beating all competitors in the disk and partition imaging arena, the company said.
