Active Voice strengthens position as third largest

By Tin Can Communications
Johannesburg, 17 Aug 2000

Siltek Telecoms, a local Active Voice distributor, has announced that the computer software vendor has maintained its position as third largest voice messaging provider in the US for 1999.

Dataquest, a leading market research and consulting firm, reported in the US Voice Messaging Systems Market share and Forecast 2000, that based on the number of messaging systems shipped last year,

Active Voice was exceeded in the overall market share by only Nortel Networks and Lucent Technologies.

According to Dataquest analysts, Active Voice has made some significant gains in the last year in terms of actual numbers of systems shipped. In the past year, the number of Active Voice products being shipped have increased by 73.9% giving Active Voice a 14.4% share of the voice messaging market.

Dataquest analyst Megan Marek explains that although the figures focus on the total number of voice messaging systems shipped, it is expected that unified messaging will account for an even larger portion of revenues going forward.

"As a result, unified messaging is already beginning to account for a larger portion of Active Voice's market share, particularly as IP telephony solutions increase their penetration into the market," continues Marek.

"With the Unity family of products, Active Voice is perfectly positioned to provide exciting new IP technologies. Unity integrates seamlessly into more than 96 % of the traditional PBX and new IP-PBX telephone systems on the market," says Michael Aitken, MD of Siltek Telecoms.

"Since a single Unity can support both traditional and IP systems at the same time, it is an ideal solution for businesses converging their voice and networks. Unity is our fastest growing product line, in both our and strategic partner channels," concludes Aitken.
