Aculab moves into telco space with Prosody CompactPCI

By Tin Can Communications
Johannesburg, 25 Oct 2000

Siltek Telecoms, a specialist telecommunications distributor, has announced the launch of Aculab's Prosody CompactPCI (cPCI) card. The card enables operators to have much greater flexibility when looking to tailor their and services to the needs of end users.

Prosody cPCI brings the unique advantages of Aculab's proven speech and digital access technology into the Telco environment. According to Michael Aitken, managing director of Siltek Telecoms, "Prosody cPCI offers integrators and developers the freedom to devise enhanced and reliable Telco grade solutions."

Aitken explains that Aculab has enabled this in two ways. "Firstly, a new software architecture, TiNG, allows developers to choose their own algorithm combination for each digital processor (DSP), presenting the opportunity to `mix and match' from Aculab's extensive algorithm portfolio which includes basic speech and data resources, text to speech (TTS) automatic speech recognition (ASR) and fax."

"Secondly," he continues, "Aculab's product range is fully compliant with the H.110 specifications set by the ECTF (Enterprise Computer Telephony Forum) and with PICMG guidelines, with regards to hot swap." "By doing so", concludes Aitken "Aculab's Prosody cPCI satisfies the 24x7 resilience demands of Telcos while providing the highest density available today."

Chris Gravett, Aculab's sales and marketing director, says, "The TiNG software architecture offers a new benchmark in developer control, allowing them to dictate and make best use of Aculab's range of license free software. The TiNG compilation tool is accessible via the web and allows the configured set of aligorithms to be download from Aculab's website."

Aculab

Through a customer-focused approach to development, Aculab has produced a computer telephony (CT) product portfolio that satisfies the speech resource and global digital connectivity requirements of developers and system integrators. CT applications utilising Aculab's components can handle real-time telephony, through an extensive range of resources and signalling systems. The evolution of Aculab's generic API, to provide a consistent programming interface, reduces the integration time of a combination of technologies including Text-To-Speech (TTS), Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), conferencing and fax. Collectively through supporting a broad range of industry standards and operating systems, Aculab can provide the products needed when quality and performance cannot be compromised. Aculab is based in the UK, with further offices in the US, Germany and Australia.
