Aculab widens freedom of choice for CT developers with Windows2000

By Tin Can Communications
Johannesburg, 11 Oct 2000

Computer (CT) technology group, Aculab, has made MicrosoftWindows2000 available to its customers, releasing call and switch device drivers for a range of Aculab speech and access solutions.

This is according to Michael Aitken, managing director of Siltek Telecoms, and local distributor of Aculab. "The move supports Aculab's aim of transferring control of Computer Telephony application developers and system integrators, allowing them to integrate Aculab products with their choice of operating system."

The drivers can be compiled on-line from Aculab's FTP site http://www.aculab.com/ship. Aculab products can be integrated within a variety of operating systems, including Windows NT/2000, Linux, SCO UnixWare 7, Solaris (Sun Sparc) and Digital Alpha Unix4.

Chris Gravett, Aculab's sales and marketing director, says "The long-term benefit of this advancement to developers and integrators is that, regardless of operating system preference, they can utilise Aculab's technology, enhancing their ability to meet the individual needs of end-users".

Aculab

Through a customer-focused approach to development, Aculab has produced a computer telephony (CT) product portfolio that satisfies the speech resource and global digital connectivity requirements of developers and system integrators. CT applications utilising Aculab's components can handle real-time telephony, through an extensive range of resources and signalling systems. The evolution of Aculab's generic API, to provide a consistent programming interface, reduces the integration time of a combination of technologies including Text-To-Speech (TTS), Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), conferencing and fax. Collectively through supporting a broad range of industry standards and operating systems, Aculab can provide the products needed when quality and performance cannot be compromised.
