Keeping up to speed with what's happening in the world of Oracle, Adapt IT attended the SA Oracle User Group (SAOUG) held last year at the Cape Town ICC, and intends to participate again this year when the event is held at Sun City.
This semi-independent user group is designed to attract IT decisions-makers, technologists, and existing and new users of Oracle technology (which now includes over 2 000 'best of breed' software products around information and database management). The conference offers implementers and users of Oracle products the chance to share product, technology, and partner experiences, liaise with Oracle experts, and present new Oracle-related projects. For Adapt IT Solutions, SAOUG presents a valuable opportunity to interact and align with other Oracle partners either exhibiting or presenting at the conference.
Adapt IT Solutions is an Oracle Gold Partner and an independent software vendor. This means it is an Oracle Technology Partner as it both builds its own software solutions and implements Oracle offerings such as ESSO (Enterprise Single Sign-On) for its clients. This year at SAOUG, Adapt IT (including Adapt IT Solutions and ITS representatives) exhibited and presented a paper on Adapt IT's use of ESSO at blue-chip customer Illovo Sugar, and into the future.
Part of the Oracle Identity Management portfolio, ESSO allows users to login to enterprise applications using a single password to access any password-protected application on their desktop, network, or Internet. This simplifies the user authentication process across applications and reduces the number of application logins per user to a single domain login. This allows for enhanced password management and security, easy access, streamlined processes, enhanced controls, monitoring, automated compliance, and automated reporting.
Adapt IT also sponsored a number of employees to attend the conference's Technology Tracks. These technical workshops allow delegates hands-on opportunities to work with new Oracle products. For Lionnet, this is one of SAOUG's most valuable offerings - the chance for talented employees to work directly with new technology, rather than merely hearing about it via a presentation.
In an exciting move for the industry, Oracle recently announced its acquisition of SUN Microsystems, growing the organisation's offerings to include hardware. Lionnet reports that SUN is a compelling infrastructure stack for Adapt IT as, with the value added by Oracle, it offers a total turn-key solution, incorporating hardware and software programmes in one box, with optimal performance as the goal. In partnership with Tifozi, specialists in enterprise services, and First Distribution, the preferred distribution provider for SUN, Adapt IT is looking to take Oracle offerings, such as JD Edwards, in the SUN box, to the market as a complete turnkey solution for selected clients.
Says Colin Casalis, Technical Business Unit Manager at Adapt IT Solutions: “Attending SAOUG allows Oracle partners like Adapt IT to learn more about new products on offer and exciting Oracle-related developments.” In his view: “For those, like Adapt IT, who are interested in getting the best out of their Oracle offerings, in learning about Oracle's best of breed, SAOUG is a valuable experience.”
