A range of low-cost emergency power supply solutions for homes, home offices, and small businesses that overcome problems associated with increasingly frequent and extended mains power failures, is now available countrywide through JSE-listed applied technology and solutions provider Square One Solutions Group.
Developed by Tedelex and branded IntelliPower, the solutions are distributed and supported by the Infrastructure Solutions business unit of Square One, a Tedelex authorised solutions partner.
Self-contained and wheel-mounted for mobility, the Intellipower units are available in two versions - a 1 200-Watt 2000VA system and a 600-Watt 1000VA system known as IntelliPower-4 and IntelliPower-2 respectively.
Geoff Norman, director of business development for technology solutions at Square One, said IntelliPower is a very flexible solution. "For example, an IntelliPower-4 with two 102 Amp/hour batteries in 24 Volt configuration will support a back office file server, a network switch and two fully-configured point-of-sale tills for six hours."
Norman added that Intellipower solutions offering up to 1 200-Watts of power can be applied to home needs and, for example, could support a large screen television, DSTV decoder, DVD player, VCR, and a lamp with 11-Watt energy saver bulb for more than 10 hours, or be configured to support 12 light bulbs for five hours.
"They include surge protection and will easily support a home office environment PC, ADSL connection, printer and fax and provide sufficient light to continue working for five or six hours. Home-based businesses are proliferating and for them, backup power solutions are a must-have."
The IntelliPower units are lightweight and compact, providing seamless and automatic switchover to battery supply on loss of mains power. When mains power is restored, the units immediately switch back. Additional batteries can be added in parallel configuration to extend backup capacity.
"Unlike generator sets, which are being banned from use in certain areas because of noise and diesel exhaust pollution concerns, battery back power solutions are completely silent and eco-friendly," said Norman.
"With use of electricity increasing on average by 1 000MW a year and the situation in which power demand in South Africa is more frequently exceeding Eskom's capacity to supply, retail outlets, small offices and homes can be badly affected. IntelliPower provides an affordable, effective solution."
