IT spending in Africa, and particularly in SA, is expected to rise by almost 11 % this year, according to Gartner analysts.
Africa's projected growth in IT spending is to outperform the global average of 3.7%, say Gartner researchers, who surveyed CIOs across Africa and the Middle East.
Results of the survey found that African firms are investing more in mobile technologies, analytics, and enterprise resource applications for finance and human relations.
Other key technologies that businesses on the continent are spending money on include cloud computing, collaboration software, IT management technologies, virtualisation and customer relationship management applications.
Strong economic growth in Africa is to boost IT spending on the continent, says Mark McDonald, group VP and head of research at Gartner executive programs.
Economists at the World Bank expect sub-Saharan Africa's gross domestic product to expand by over 5% this year, while the Euro Zone faces threats of a recession.
“Economic conditions in the Middle East and Africa are different from North America and Western Europe,” McDonald says.
“Firms in the African and Middle East regions are seeing investment driven by economic development... much of which is supported by demand for natural resources,” he said.
Gartner's predictions of IT spending, particularly for SA, are higher than that of research firm IDC, which said SA's IT market is expected to grow by 8%.
