African IT takes its place on international stage

Johannesburg, 11 Oct 2002

Enterasys Network`s second eNet user and channel partner conference has attracted delegates from afar a field as Russia and Portugal as well as a host of African countries.

"While most conferences hosted by South African divisions have representation from parent companies, last year`s conference drew so much comment from our partners and end-users that this year we are playing host to a deluge of international guest as well as our local partners," says Martin May, regional director sub-Saharan Africa.

May says evidence of international interest in the African continent is born out by the attendance line-up at the conference.

"There is a serious mind shift among international companies. Africa is no longer viewed as the poor cousin, we are a serious market with serious players and our voice is not only being heard, it is now given the due respect it deserves."

This year Enterasys will focus on the continuing battle faced by IT players competing in a declining market.

However, rather than focusing exclusively on what Enterasys has to offer, this year eNet will address challenges faced by the industry as a whole.

"Working in a tight market means we have to sharper, smarter and quicker than ever before. This year we will be calling on Enterasys` combined expertise to help our partners and end-users compete successfully in today`s business climate," says May.

Enterasys sales and marketing director for the sub-Saharan region, Gavin Levin has put together a jam-packed two-and-half day programme, including a key note address by Dennis Symington, who will present an analysis on which companies remain as legitimate IT players and why.

"We will be working around a theme of `War in IT` this year, which we feel is an accurate portrayal of business in the networking and security markets at the moment. We are working towards equipping our partners with an armoury of ideas and solutions which will enable them to face whatever business battles come their way," says Levin.

Running from Sunday, 20 October through to Tuesday, 22 October, eNet will include addresses from Enterasys` top international executives as well as an array of entertainment and fun.
