Agencies must collaborate
US agencies need to view their enterprise architectures as tools to improve business decisions, says Richard Burk, chief architect at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), reports FCW.
Agencies will also need to collaborate with one another to develop and deliver the next generation of services.
OMB will publish on Core.government the best practices identified through the enterprise architecture assessment process, such as documents associated with a data or services architecture.

EA key to IT security
Chief information security officer at the US Commerce Department, Michael Castagna, says: "The key to having good IT security at government agencies is to make it subordinate to enterprise architecture," reports FCW.
For agencies to overcome security issues, they must integrate IT security into the architecture so any problems can be seen in a wider scope and tackled agency-wide, Castagna said.
"We have to have one architecture, and IT security has to be a part of that," he said as part of a panel at the Enterprise Architecture 2007 Conference, run by the E-Gov Institute.
