SecureData Security, part of JSE-listed SecureData Holdings, the sole sub-Saharan distributor for Trend Micro, today announced an anti-malware solution that leverages VMware's new VMware vShield Endpoint.
VMware vShield Endpoint strengthens security for virtual machines and their hosts while significantly improving performance for virtual machine (VM) protection by offloading anti-malware processing to dedicated security-hardened virtual machines delivered by VMware partners.
Integrating VMware vShield Endpoint APIs has enabled Trend Micro to create anti-malware protection for VMs without requiring a third-party agent to be installed on each VM, thereby reducing memory and CPU load. As a result, Trend Micro is able to provide anti-malware protection for VMs, while minimising performance and operational impact.
“Trend has been a long-time security innovator and provider of security and compliance solutions for VMware environments,” commented Lee Bristow, Product Manager at SecureData for Trend Micro products. “This release is the first agentless anti-malware for VMware virtualised data centres and further demonstrates Trend's ongoing commitment to VMware. In a similar way, VMware vShield Endpoint further demonstrates VMware's ongoing commitment to security.”
“Trend Micro's Deep Security leverages this new technology from VMware and enables VMware vSphere customers to secure their virtualised desktops and servers while minimising performance and operational impact,” continued Bristow. “Customers can accelerate their virtualisation investments, achieve higher VM consolidation rates and reap greater operational expenditure savings, while helping to ensure compliance with regulations and corporate policies."
Trend Micro delivers agentless anti-malware for VMware through Trend Micro's latest release of Deep Security, ie, version 7.5. Deep Security provides advanced protection for virtualised systems, and this latest version includes agentless anti-malware, together with IDS/IPS, Web application protection, firewall, integrity monitoring and log inspection modules.
"As an early VMware security partner, Trend Micro has been heavily committed to delivering solutions that are tightly integrated with and fully leverage VMware technologies," concluded Bristow. "The availability of VMware vShield Endpoint is an important step forward for customers, as it has allowed them to deliver a solution that does not require the installation of security software onto each VM. This further conserves the performance and memory of the server, and allows enterprises to consolidate more VMs on each server. By leveraging VMware vShield Endpoint, Trend Micro is able to provide effective solutions to businesses that want the cost-savings and operating efficiencies of virtualisation, but need the protection from malware and other Web threats that may compromise their networks.”
Trend Micro Deep Security is part of Trend Micro Enterprise Security, a tightly integrated offering of content security products, services and solutions, which is powered by the Trend Micro Smart Protection Network. Trend Micro Enterprise Security delivers maximum protection from emerging threats while minimising the cost and complexity of security management.
