The Rosslyn-based Automotive Industry Development Centre (AIDC) says rapid implementation and minimal training are important cost-saving factors for small and medium companies when choosing an enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution.
"We chose Maconomy because it offered us all the transparency, efficiency, optimisation and control functionality we needed, but requiring less powerful hardware and half the implementation time of competing solutions," says Johannes Sch"uler, business development manager for AIDC.
Maconomy is a Danish ERP and financial management solution, distributed locally by Johannesburg-based PSA Solutions.
Visiting Maconomy product manager Per Christensen ascribes the fast implementation time in part to Maconomy`s use of pre-configured solutions aimed at specialised industries such as consulting services and agencies for advertising, branding and other communication services.
"Maconomy particularly meets the needs of service-oriented organisations that want plug-and-play solutions that are easy to implement, learn, use, maintain and upgrade, which all translate into cost savings," says Christensen.
He says an important characteristic for these industries is that unlike traditional ERP solutions, Maconomy focuses more on services and the interaction of people than machines and production lines.
"Maconomy also offers full financial and project management integration, which enables companies to do things such as identify profitable projects and generate invoices faster," says Christensen.
Sch"uler admits being concerned about local support for a Danish product, but says he is happy with the support received at all levels locally and from Denmark.
"Apart from delivering rapid implementation, Maconomy has given us a good overview of our business because of the solution`s Web-based real-time reports that deliver instant transparency at all levels, " says Sch"uler.
Christensen says Maconomy expects to be well received by the South African market because of the solution`s ability to meet the most pressing needs of many local businesses.
