AIDS orphans smile happily thanks to Ovations contribution at ITWeb charity golf day

Ovations has put happy smiles on the faces of the children at the Salvation Army Ethembeni AIDS Orphanage.

The enterprise content management, business process management, enterprise application integration and business intelligence solution provider purchased an autographed Tiger Woods golf ball for no less than R15 000 at the recent ITWeb Technology Golf Challenge, held at Dainfern Country Club. The amount formed part of the total R53 700 and Lexmark colour printer donated to the orphanage by ITWeb.

"We are extremely grateful to Ovations for their generous contribution to our charity," says ITWeb production director Angela Wressell. "We were completely overwhelmed by the tremendous support we received from the participants and the total amount raised on the day was beyond our expectations. The representatives from Ethembeni were visibly moved by the support they received and will put the funds to good use to improve the children`s lives at the orphanage."

Established in November 1995, Ethembeni caters for children between 0 and 3 years who are HIV positive or have been abandoned. Of the many children who pass through the orphanage`s doors, some are fostered, adopted, or returned to their families, while others sadly pass away. Alternative placement for the children has to be sought once they turn 18 months as Ethembeni is unable to meet their educational needs when they are older.

"We are honoured to be able to contribute to such a worthy cause as the Ethembeni orphanage," says Ovations managing director Rainer Gaier. "The number of children abandoned and orphaned as a result of AIDS is reaching epidemic proportions in SA and our contribution is but a tiny drop in a huge ocean of need. We commend ITWeb for all the hard work they put into this community-minded event and look forward to participating in next year`s golf challenge."
