Air China selects CA`s Unicenter and eTrust

Industry-leading management solutions enable large China Air carrier to maximize technology benefits while minimizing operational overhead costs
Johannesburg, 31 Oct 2002

Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) today announced that Air China has selected CA`s leading Unicenter and eTrust management solutions to ensure the stability and security of its distributed computing environment while simultaneously lowering the cost of its IT operations.

Air China is one of the largest air carriers in China. The airline`s networked IT environment is complex and geographically dispersed, with multiple server platforms in multiple locations. Integrated, centralized management of these diverse resources became essential to ensure the stability and security of Air China`s operations.

Air China selected CA`s industry-leading Unicenter and eTrust solutions based on the superior functionality, integration and ease-of-use - as well as CA`s strong in-country presence for implementation and support services.

Air China is using Unicenter Network and Systems Management (Unicenter NSM) to automatically discover and monitor networked devices across its distributed IT environment. Administrators are automatically alerted when a malfunction occurs. Unicenter NSM also gives technicians the information they need to pro-actively address potential problems before they disrupt Air China`s business operations.

Air China has also implemented Unicenter solutions to control PCs remotely and install, upgrade and remove software across the network. This centralization and automation of routine tasks greatly reduces redundant IT workloads and accelerates rollouts of new capabilities to end users.

Air China is using CA eTrust security management solutions - including eTrust Intrusion Detection and eTrust Access Control - to provide end-to-end security protection for its IT environment.

"The airline business puts special demands on us to maintain uninterrupted operations - which can be a real challenge when you`re managing a complex, distributed IT environment," said Song Jian, Deputy Director of Air China`s Information Technology Center. "Fortunately, CA`s Unicenter and eTrust solutions centralize and simplify management of our IT environment so that we can meet this challenge and effectively support our business 24 hours a day, seven days a week."

CA Services worked closely with Air China`s IT administrators to ensure the successful completion of the project - assisting with requirements assessment, design, integration and training.

"Improved management of IT resources is essential to optimize business performance," said Cliff Yung, senior vice president of CA Greater China. "It is very gratifying to see that such a prominent international airline chose CA solutions to meet this strategic goal."
