Air Force overspent by nearly $1m

A US Air Force base contracting unit says it inadvertently overspent a $9 million contract authorisation by nearly $1 million, says Dayton Daily News.

According to Scott Amey, general counsel for the Project on Government Oversight, an independent US watchdog organisation, this was due to lack of an efficient contract management system.

“US Senator Sherrod Brown would be interested in reviewing the findings of the Air Force's investigation,” says spokesperson Joanna Kuebler. “The senator believes wasting taxpayer dollars is unacceptable.”

Businesses warned of regulation impact

IT solutions and consulting company Access has warned UK businesses that HM Revenue and Custom (HMRC) regulation changes, due on 1 January 2010 in the UK, could impact business profitability if not adjusted for accurately, reports Earth Times.

Kevin Misselbrook, customer services director for Access, says: “Although the process to meet these changes may appear simple, businesses should consider the potential impact on areas such as retail margins if adjustments are not made to reflect the increased VAT.”

To meet the HMRC requirements, Access will release an upgrade for the Access Dimensions solution at the end of November. The solution offers contract management, financial service, automation, reporting, payroll and document management.
