Airports install image detectors

Smiths Detection's advanced eqo-body imaging system, which use electronic, real-time imaging to detect concealed weapons or explosives, has been installed at three South Korean airports, the first deployment in Asia, states Asia Travel Tips.

The three systems are being used as additional screening for passengers travelling through Gimpo, Gimhae, and Jeju airports. Eqo's patented, millimetre-wave imaging provides a clear, moving picture of the person in front of a flat panel in a standard checkpoint layout.

A remote operator can then check for any threat items - metal, non-metallic or liquid - hidden beneath clothing.

Virtual desktop printing toolkit released

Print management vendor ThinPrint has released a free toolkit for integrating virtual desktop printing into printing environments, according to Channel Web.

The Colorado-based developer will distribute the ThinPrint Desktop Extension toolkit with the help of its 500 global channel partners, a spokesperson said.

The toolkit, in conjunction with ThinPrint's .print 8.0 print management software platform, supports virtual desktop environments such as Citrix XenDesktop, Microsoft VDI Suite and VMware desktop products, the company said.

Print industry to see cloud boost

More companies will utilise Web printing services as they come online and this will provide a boost for the print industry, noted industry watchers, ZDNet reports.

Lee Lee Ken, GM of enterprise sales and services, printing solutions and services at Lexmark Asia-Pacific, says more companies will put documents in the and have employees "consume" this information on demand, providing their workforce with the flexibility of printing the amount they need.

"Printing in the cloud offers unprecedented scalability of businesses of any size," she added.
