Airwide scores an assist for Vodafone Netherlands with goal alerts service during the 2006 football world cup

Vodafone Netherlands selects Airwide Solutions for high performance mobile messaging service
Reading, UK, 11 Jun 2006

Airwide Solutions, the leading provider of mobile messaging infrastructure, today announced that Vodafone Netherlands has installed AirOpen Router for MMS, its next generation multi-media messaging (MMS) router, to facilitate the Vodafone Netherlands exclusive Goal Alert Service during the 2006 World Cup. The service will deliver time-critical photo or video message updates to Vodafone Netherlands' subscribers whenever a goal is scored and at key points throughout matches. The AirOpen Router was designed to ensure intelligent routing for high volume, time sensitive delivery of multimedia content which is key to the success of this Goal Alert Service. This, together with Airwide Solutions' SMSCs (Short Message Service Centres) which are also present in Vodafone Netherlands' networks, will be key components of the service.

Airwide's AirOpen Router is a fully interoperable and flexible MMS routing engine that intelligently manages the message retrieval process and the routing of the Goal Alerts to specialist MMS high capacity engines being made available centrally by the Vodafone Group. It includes the capability to inspect all MMS traffic and perform intelligent routing and filtering operations based on the message attributes. The AirOpen Router, combined with Airwide's high performance SMSCs, will play an important role in ensuring the quality delivery of high value, time-sensitive content, allowing Vodafone Netherlands to deliver the excitement of the 2006 World Cup into the palm of their subscribers' hands.

Jay Seaton, chief marketing officer at Airwide comments: "Airwide has more than a decade of experience providing and supporting Vodafone messaging services. We are really excited to have been selected by Vodafone Netherlands to work with them on this time-sensitive project that will be played out on a world stage."

Graeme Millar, Director of Vodafone Netherlands' Consumer Business Unit comments: "During the 2006 World Cup we are offering our Vodafone live! customers a front row seat to all the relevant football action as we have the exclusive mobile video rights for the Dutch market. Next to the MMS Goal Alerts our customers can also enjoy Live TV highlights of all 64 matches and get breaking news and other football related content (games, ringtones, etc) on their mobile. A world class customer experience when using these services is a key element for us in selecting partners".

Airwide Solution's SMSCs provide a field-proven, highly scalable and redundant messaging foundation. Airwide's family of routers provide new levels of performance at reduced operating costs, as well as traffic optimisation, congestion management and First Delivery Attempt (FDA). Integrated together, these systems maximise capacity with intelligent load distribution. These highly flexible systems provide support for all leading platforms, including UNIX, Linux, Solaris, as well as SIGTRAN and SS7. Airwide's Fusion architecture is the foundation for its industry leading router, gateway, SMSC, and MMSC product lines.
