Aladdin Knowledge Systems has announced an agreement with Packard Bell NEC to bundle approximately 50,000 Packard Bell PCs with Aladdin`s eToken for e-commerce and security applications. This agreement will first be implemented in Belgium, where Packard Bell holds more than 22 percent of the home PC market, according to the latest Dataquest survey, and will be progressively expanded to other markets.
"The PCs will be bundled with a set of eTokens or "Internet keys" of different colours, one for each member of the family, and the eAccess application developed by Aladdin. By using the Internet key, each user will be able to purchase easily and securely over the Internet and personalise each access to the computer.
The Internet key also allows for the sharing of the PC safely between members of the family, and protecting the confidential information of each user," says Brett Myroff, CEO of local Aladdin affiliate, eSafe Technologies SA.
Using eAccess, a Main User can control user access to the PC and Internet in terms of schedule and activities for each of the other member of the family, based on their individually configured key. The Main User can also restrict user access to harmful or undesirable Web content. eAccess uses technology originally developed for Aladdin`s eSafe Protect Internet Security suite.
Isaac Hillel, executive vice president, Packard Bell NEC International, says although the PC vendor assessed alternatives, no technology fitted its strategy as well as the Aladdin solution - particularly in terms of simplicity and security. "eToken provides an intuitive and friendly way to ensure PC and Internet security and fits perfectly in our strategy to transform our PCs into gateways for e-commerce."
William B. Seebeck, MD of Seebeck International, LLC, a US-based online consultancy, says use of Aladdin`s security package is a major step in not only securing access to PCs, but also in providing an efficient way to prevent inappropriate Internet access by family members, most especially children.
Additionally, eToken will be bundled with Packard Bell`s laptops, hence securing the mobile PC from unauthorised access and unauthorised use of the data and allowing the user, with the same key, to perform easy and secure e-commerce.
"The integration of e-Token with Packard Bell`s PCs will offer customers a new, secure and portable means to use their PC for e-commerce ," says Myroff.
