University centre adopts Bluenog ICE

Columbia University's Centre for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN) has deployed Bluenog ICE, an integrated suite of content management, portal and software, reports The Earth Times.

CIESIN is a centre within Columbia University's Earth Institute that helps scientists, decision-makers and the public better understand the changing relationship between human beings and the environment.

Bluenog ICE, an integrated collaborative environment that leverages Web 2.0 technologies, will provide the infrastructure behind CIESIN's many public-facing Web sites, which collectively comprise several thousand Web pages. CIESIN estimates that Bluenog ICE will significantly reduce its IT labour requirements for Web content management, potentially by as much as 50%.

Optenet expands content security

Optenet, a global IT security company and provider of filtering solutions, has expanded its content security solution to include a new bandwidth optimisation function, says Cloud Computing Journal.

Optenet bandwidth management offers Internet service providers a tool that enables real-time network traffic control and can be offered to customers as a value-added service.

With Optenet's bandwidth management capability, the ISP or customer administrator can monitor and control the bandwidth resources consumed by a URL connection, an IP address, or a traffic group, in efforts to reduce network congestion caused by streaming video, social network sites, and the downloading of large multimedia files.
