Alcatel`s (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) 7300 Advanced Services Access Manager (ASAM), the world`s most widely deployed broadband access platform, has won Korean newspaper Digital Times` award for Best Networking Product.
Digital Times is one of Korea`s leading IT publications. The appeal of Alcatel`s 7300 ASAM lies in its ability to allow carriers to cost-effectively deploy digital subscriber line (DSL) services on a single, unified platform that seamlessly integrates new services as they evolve. Korea has the most DSL subscribers in the world.
Today, over six million Korean households take broadband services - 40% of all internet connections in the country - and over half use DSL. The Korean government this month announced plans to bring broadband services to over 80% of the population by 2005.
Alcatel supplies broadband equipment to the country`s largest service providers, Hanaro Telecom and Korea Telecom. Prizewinners in the annual competition are selected from a 70:30 mix of reader surveys and reporter evaluation. The key criterion for the Best Networking Product award is product satisfaction - indicating that DSL providers in Korea recognise the 7300 ASAM for its world-class performance.
"Alcatel is widely recognised as the leader in broadband access, our readers` verdict in electing the 7300 ASAM as Best Networking Product speaks for itself" said Digital Times` KS Ahn. "Koreans are hungry for broadband access, and it takes a product like the 7300 ASAM to deliver profitable DSL over and over again."
"Given the breadth of DSL products on the market and the fast pace of broadband roll out in Korea, winning this award was no mean feat" said CS KIM, Alcatel`s Country Senior Officer for Korea."Alcatel places much emphasis on the 7300 ASAM`s adaptability and scalability. Korea, as broadband`s avant-garde, has shown that the DSL market is restless. Moving from fast Internet to higher value services requires broadband equipment to seamlessly integrate those services with minimum disruption and minimum incremental investment. This award is a clear signal that the Alcatel 7300 ASAM does just that, to the absolute satisfaction of subscribers and providers alike. We are proud to accept it."
Digital Times is one of Korea`s leading IT publications with a circulation of 400 000. The newspaper`s main areas of focus are network infrastructure and multimedia applications.
