Alcatel appoints Yusof Ampuan Kechil as MD in Malaysia

Alcatel today announced the appointment of Yusof Ampuan Kechil as managing director for Malaysia, effective 5 January 2004.

In this position, Yusof will be responsible for sales, marketing and operations including definition, development and implementation of business strategies for Alcatel in Malaysia.

Prior to his appointment, Yusof was chief executive officer for VADS Berhad, a subsidiary of Telekom Malaysia Berhad. During this time, Yusof led the business to significant revenue growth and improved operational performance. He also set up two subsidiaries, VADS Solutions Sdn Bhd and VADS E-Services Sdn Bhd, which are part of VADS Berhad business units.

With 30 years in the telecommunications industry and working experience with Telekom Malaysia Berhad, Yusof held various senior management positions including general manager for corporate, global and government markets in Malaysia, and general manager for Sabah region.

"Malaysia is an important market for Alcatel, and it is also the hub of Alcatel`s mobile business in the Southeast Asia region," said Alcatel vice-president for Southeast Asia and Pacific Islands, Constantin Scordidis. "Yusof joins Alcatel with an in-depth understanding of telecommunications industry. He will drive our growth and further strengthen our leadership position in Malaysia."
