Alcatel today announced that Saudi Aramco, the world leader in crude oil production, has selected the Alcatel 7670 Routing Switch Platform (RSP) to build a carrier class high speed backbone for its mission critical applications. The Alcatel 7670 RSP will provide Saudi Aramco data centers with the enhanced performance needed to preserve existing data, video and voice services, while also providing a go-forward investment upon which to deploy and evolve new IP-based services.
Saudi Aramco currently provides data network connectivity for over 35,000 corporate users both in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and around the world. With deployment already underway, the Alcatel 7670 RSP will operate in several areas to build a highly reliable, scalable, and fault-tolerant backbone that provides centralized connectivity for enterprise servers at all campus locations. Many of the projects being implemented, such as Enterprise Resource Planning, video streaming and videoconferencing, are dependent upon a backbone with these attributes to meet the high growth of IP traffic.
"Saudi Aramco`s operations span the globe and the energy industry," said Dr. Ibrahim Mishari, Vice President Information Technology and CIO. "As the world leader in crude oil production, Saudi Aramco heavily impacts Saudi Arabia`s industrial sector. It is vital that we build a reliable high speed network that can handle our most critical communication`s needs."
Integrating IP, MPLS and ATM on a single platform, the multiprotocol Alcatel 7670 RSP represents a new breed of product that combines support for both legacy and new applications and services. This unique product architecture allows service providers to migrate at their own pace toward their chosen type of network.
"The solution that we have provided Saudi Aramco not only takes into account its current network requirements but also those for the future," said Michel Rahier, president of Alcatel`s fixed networking activities. "We are applying our experience in deploying carrier-class solutions for telecom providers worldwide to meet the same requirement for mission critical applications within Saudi Aramco`s company-wide network."
The Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco) is a global leader in the petroleum industry. A fully integrated, global oil & gas company, Saudi Aramco is committed to providing the reliable energy supplies the world needs for continued prosperity and development. Saudi Aramco ranks number one in oil production and oil reserve among the major global oil companies in the world. Also ranks 4th largest in gas reserve and the 8th in world wide refining capacity. Saudi Aramco is among the top 10 natural gas producers in the world.
