Alcatel-Lucent, Tunisie Telecom sign three-year agreement to extend ultra-broadband services throughout Tunisia

Tunisie Telecom to upgrade connections for thousands of customers in order to provide higher quality voice calls, faster Internet access, and new services.

Tunis/Paris, 19 Feb 2014

Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) and Tunisie Telecom, the leading telecommunications provider in Tunisia, have today announced a three-year agreement to transform the carrier's voice and data network, paving the way for ultra-broadband access services for residential and enterprise customers throughout Tunisia.

Tunisie Telecom has selected Alcatel-Lucent's market-leading Intelligent Services Access Manager (ISAM) portfolio to upgrade tens of thousands of existing voice lines to provide high-speed broadband using ADSL, VDSL and GPON technology.

The agreement follows the successful trial of VDSL2 Vectoring technology in December 2012, using Alcatel-Lucent's Intelligent Services Access Manager (ISAM) 7302 platform running on Tunisie's existing copper cable infrastructure. VDSL2 vectoring technology enables a smooth migration path towards 100Mbps ultra-broadband that can support a wide range applications, like video on-demand and online gaming for consumers, and secure point-to-point Ethernet services for enterprise.

Key facts:

* Tunisie Telecom has selected Alcatel-Lucent's 7302, 7330 and 7353 Intelligent Services Access Manager solutions, 5526 Access Management System, and customised street cabinets to provide both voice and ultra-broadband services to thousands of customers.
* This project forms part of Tunisie Telecom's strategic plans to evolve its voice and data networks into a single IP infrastructure in order to provide customers with high quality voice calls, faster Internet access, and new services.
* VDSL2 is a key component of Alcatel-Lucent's portfolio as it repositions as a specialist vendor of IP networking and ultra-broadband access technologies, as part of The Shift Plan.

Quotes:

Nizar Bouguila, Chief Technology Officer of Tunisie Telecom, said: "We were looking for a comprehensive technology solution that would allow us to reinforce our position as the leader in providing high-speed, high-quality voice and broadband services in Tunisia. The trial in late 2012 demonstrated to us Alcatel-Lucent had the technology and expertise to achieve our immediate goals and support our longer-term plans in the most timely and cost-efficient way."

Faical Haffoudhi, Country Senior Officer of Alcatel-Lucent Tunisia, said: "Tunisie Telecom is a longstanding customer and we have worked very closely together to shape and evolve the network to the next level. This three-year agreement underscores the confidence Tunisie has in our VDSL2 and GPON technology and ability to help provide customers with the fastest broadband speeds possible now and in the future."
