Alcatel has launched a new line of voice and data communication products aimed at meeting the converged communications needs of any size enterprise.
The new suite of products includes Mobile IP Touch phones, communication platforms and switches, which Alcatel Enterprise Solutions Activities president Jean-Christophe Giroux says offer a complete coverage solution.
"We have added a new building block onto our existing solution. We tried to take into consideration all the challenges faced by business to ensure that what we were offering was up to the job."
Products on offer include the OmniAccess Wireless switches and appliances, which provide the platform for voice over WLAN and other real-time applications, and are 802.11i-ready for next-generation wireless security support.
On the wired side, the OmniAccess 1200 Access points have been launched with as little intelligence as possible. "The reason for this is that it makes it easier to get centralised management," says Giroux. "Also, each access point is cheap, robust, and is easier for us to integrate into our wired solutions."
The Mobile IP Touch wireless phones were designed to act as extensions of the OmniPCX range, says Giroux. By utilising the IEEE 802.11b global standard to operate as client devices on wireless LANs, it allows for converged mobile voice and data applications on a single wireless infrastructure.
The OmniPCX range will provide companies with significant cost saving benefits, says Giroux. "People usually use their GSM phone even when inside their company, which results in massive costs. Now they will be automatically connected to the landline on your GSM phone upon entering the building.
"You are always using the operating network on your GSM. We will declare that GSM as a client of the OmniPCX, which makes it cheaper."
