Alcatel today announced that the Alcatel OmniPCX Office, an integrated voice-data network system for small and medium enterprises, has been awarded West Coast Labs` Checkmark firewall certification, after successfully completing rigorous testing.
The Checkmark firewall certification is a globally recognised certification for firewall solutions. It certifies that the firewall built into the Alcatel OmniPCX Office solution is able to effectively protect the network from hostile attacks, whether they may be internal or external to the organisation.
This certification is administered by West Coast Labs, an internationally recognised independent testing and certification organisation, based in the UK. The certification is designed to give users clear and unambiguous statements of fact about the performance of the information security solutions they are using or evaluating. The Checkmark System assures that the solution meets published industry-accepted standards.
"Alcatel has shown that its solution, the Alcatel OmniPCX Office, is capable of providing a real-world standard of protection for its users," said Paul Robinson, technical director at West Coast Labs.

If a product does not retain its security level, its Checkmark certification is suspended and even withdrawn if the developer does not improve the security of its product.
