Market leader chalks up yet another enterprise award
Johannesburg, 22 Nov 2002

Alcatel today announced that the Alcatel 4980 Softphone has won World`s distinguished 2002 "Best of the Tests Award" in the 11 November Best issue. The Alcatel 4980 Softphone is an application that enables road warriors and home workers to use their computer as a telephone to access the Alcatel OmniPCX 4400 IP-PBX`s corporate features from virtually anywhere in the world.

Over the past 12 months, the reviews editors of Network World conducted extensive tests on over 230 products and services of enterprise scope. Selection was based on the highest scores for products and services within a category that underwent Network World`s rigorous, hands-on testing. Network World gives these awards in 13 separate categories and the Alcatel 4980 Softphone received the top score in the VOIP category.

According to Miercom, a member of the Network World Global Test Alliance, the Alcatel 4980 Softphone was clearly a cut above the other products tested in this category. This product support more than 90% of the traditional corporate telephone features, and it topped the ticket in terms of installation, ease of use and configuration.

Additionally, Alcatel offers an easy to deploy, easy to Web-based soft phone for businesses wanting to exploit the full potential of the Internet by delivering corporate telephony features quickly and efficiently to online employees. Both the Alcatel WebSoftphone and 4980 Softphone are supported by a single server and may be used interchangeably by any licensed user.

"Network World`s Best of the Tests Award reflects Alcatel`s ability to excel in a competitive IP communications industry," said Tom Wilburn, general manager, Alcatel North America enterprise business. "After a series of market share accomplishments and major product distribution agreements around our North American business, it is rewarding to end the year on a high note with this prestigious accolade."
