Alfresco simplifies content migration

Alfresco has unveiled Alfresco Migration Services, a content solution that moves proprietary enterprise content management (ECM) solutions to Alfresco ECM, writes EarthTimes.

The solution enables organisations to decrease their EMC costs, with initial services focusing on organisations looking to migrate from EMC Documentrum and Microsoft SharePoint to Alfresco Enterprise.

"Organisations often have a variety of ECM applications managing content for different departments and business processes. At a time of content proliferation, CIOs are looking for ways to minimise total cost of ownership in this area of IT spend and find more efficient ways to manage content,” says John Powell, CEO of Alfresco Software.

Apprenda unveils SaaS platform

Apprenda has unveiled SaaSGrid Express, a free version of its SaaSGrid technology, states TMCnet.

SaaSGrid provides a foundation which .NET applications can be created from with the requirements of software-as-a-service in the cloud.

“Apprenda is enabling software engineers to be solely devoted to the value their applications provide, without having to worry about all of the business and technical challenges of delivering their software-as-a-service,” says Sinclair Schuller, CEO of Apprenda.

Managing enterprise smartphones is key

The introduction of smartphones and netbooks can pose issues to an organisation, writes Computerworld.

Gartner Research vice-president, Leslie Fiering, states that organisations need to reassess security surrounding employee-owned devices that attach to the enterprise network.

"The response must be a series of network access controls that include strong authentication, and scan and block functionality, as well as network behaviour analysis," she says. "A variety of methods can be used to identify specific devices, their physical and virtual locations, and their usage history."
