Dimension Data is spearheading the "video kiosk" concept in SA, designed to bring back the human quality of consulting in an age of technology. The group, in close co-operation with several financial institutions, has developed a desktop-based video conferencing system for provision of "face-to-face" consulting services.
"Dimension Data`s Interactive Media and i-Commerce divisions have created a system that brings back the human quality to consulting and services, giving a face-to-face feel," says Cindy Cameron from Dimension Data Interactive Media.
How does the video kiosk solution work and how will companies and their clients benefit from it? According to Cameron, it`s a relatively simple concept. "People will basically be able to go to, for example their local bank branch, use a PC at the video kiosk, click on a user-friendly application and communicate face-to-face with a consultant via video conferencing."
The consultant, who could be based at the bank`s head office, will then answer all questions and work through possibly requests right there and then. This not only saves both the client and the company money, but eliminates unnecessary travel.
"The time to market is much quicker as a consultant can process an application immediately. A client will therefore immediately know whether his application for a personal loan has been approved or not. Video kiosks are keeping up with the world`s `fast food` culture," says Cameron.
An added benefit is that video kiosks make way for cross-selling as a consultant can easily offer other services, like insurance, while discussing a home loan.
When visiting a video kiosk, prospective customers are guaranteed expert advice. Cameron points out that companies can leverage their best consultants without having to spend more on employing them at specific branches or offices.
Dimension Data Interactive Media and i-Commerce have developed this `VC on a PC` system. If features the latest audio and visual collaboration technology and is relatively cost-effective, especially in the longer term.
"We are constantly finding ways to improve our video kiosk system and when fully operational at companies countrywide, it will offer a high-tech but personal consulting experience," concludes Cameron.
